Home to our endangered Humboldt penguins, Penguin Point welcomes you to the Akron Zoo.
While our penguins are not fond of the cold, they do love to swim in their pool and interact with guests through the glass.
History
Penguin Point opened in 2003 and was the first habitat to open after the Akron Zoo passed its first levy. It was designed as the first habitat that guests encounter when they enter the zoo. It’s where “the adventure begins.”
Features
The penguin habitat resembles an abandoned shipwreck off the coastline of Peru and features four viewing areas. Visitors can get a look at the zoo’s Humboldt penguins on land, underwater, at water level and above the water, looking down into the penguin pool.
The pool in the penguin habitat is 7 feet deep and holds 16,000 gallons of water.
