The Akron Zoo is delaying the opening of its new area, Lehner Family Foundation Wild Asia, due to the COVID-19 crisis and other factors. Wild Asia was set to open during the summer of 2020. The area will now open in 2021. 

While construction has been continuing, the pandemic has created challenges with labor and supply chain. The transport of animals from other accredited zoos has also been delayed for the safety and protection of the animals and transporters.   

A specific 2021 opening date will be set at a later time.

The Akron Zoo remains closed until further notice in accordance with direction from the State of Ohio. The zoo will make updates on its website and social media. For more information, visit www.akronzoo.org or call 330-375-2550.
